The primary focus of the Djukun Heritage Society Incorporated (ABN 86 928 214 204) as a legal and cultural entity, is to protect the language and culture of the Djukun nation.

In the Determination Statement of this website, it states that in recognition of the Djukun Nation, as Djukun people, we have a tribal obligation to assert our authority, as the custodians, of Djukun lands.

To achieve this goal, we strive for acknowledgement of our natural birthrights and to assert our tribal Law as the Djukun Nation and human rights within Djukun boundaries.

In our culture, we have been custodians of this Country since the Naji Ancestor, who came out of the ocean onto the land at Dabadabagun. The purpose of this news article is to inform all Readers of our tribal obligation to assert our authority, as the custodians, of Djukun lands on all issues which pertain to those matters that affect our community and Nation.

This includes making known to the entire World, without fear, our position on matters which may require the pursuit of tribal Justice, to engage and work with international and national organisations of all cultures, and to uphold our right to assert our tribal Law as the Djukun Nation and rights within Djukun boundaries, and within the statutes of common law in Australia.

Truth telling requires careful Nilabap listening, which we achieve through fostering powerful relationships with all Aboriginal Nations and culture. This article forms the beginning of the formal procedures which we will act upon with action, not hope alone.

Duly authorised by the Djukun Heritage Society Chairperson, Jaala Ozies - 17 December 2022.
